"Own Work"

[edit]

Please don't label photographs of paintings as "own work", even if you're the one who took the photograph. Thank you. DS (talk) 14:57, 2 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Manetto da Firenze

[edit]

Ah nell'iscrizione c'è assolutamente scritto B! -- Syrio posso aiutare? 22:08, 10 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Museo Delle Civiltà

[edit]

Hello again!

As you may or may not recall, you and I previously talked before about Mesoamerican (Aztec, Maya etc) art you photographed at the Pitti Palace as well as from the French Quai Branly museum. I'm reaching out again because there's a temporary exhibit at the Museo Delle Civilta in Rome that ends on February 16th, with a piece on display that I and another Mesoamerican history enthusiast are interested in getting photos of for Wikimedia.

I realize Florence is a few hours away from Rome, but I was wondering if you had any suggestions of other Wikimedia contributing Photographers in Italy who live closer to the Museum who may be willing to go, or if I cannot find one, if you'd still be open to maybe traveling: I as well as my friend would be happy to pay you to compensate you for your time.

Please let me know!

MajoraZ (talk) 01:22, 8 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Dear MajoraZ in Rome I may suggest User:Lalupa or you can leave a message in the projetc about Rome in it. wiki (it:Discussioni_progetto:Roma). As regards me, there's only a week before closure, and next week I may have only a free day from work on Thursday... maybe if you do not find anyone you could get me a train ticket from Florence to Rome? We can discuss this in the next days. Best regards --Sailko (talk) 08:53, 8 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I will reach out to Lalupa. If they or the other people I am in touch with can't go, then yes, I'm potentially willing to pay you for train tickets. How much would those cost? Also, what sort of camera would you have access to?
MajoraZ (talk) 21:23, 8 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
MajoraZ can you send me an email? Use the botton "email this user". --Sailko (talk) 13:39, 9 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Grazie e a presto. o'Sistemonetell me 16:54, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

scusa pensavo di scrivere su WIkipedia IT--o'Sistemonetell me 16:54, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ciao Sistemone!

:) Accurimbono (talk) 14:03, 16 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Restoring the two "The Enchanted World" categories

[edit]
Hi. Please stop removing Category:The Enchanted World artists (and Category:The Enchanted World) from various category pages about one artist after another. And that goes for Yann, too. There is a reason why this important category is there to stay on those category pages. If you look closely at the Picture Credits section within the last few pages of each and every single solitary installment of the Time-Life book series, The Enchanted World, you can see that they forgot to put Christoforo de Predis's name into the Picture Credits section for the De Sphaera illustrations that appears on pages 90-93 of the The Enchanted World: Wizards and Witches book, for instance. Sooner or later, I will restore the Arthur Rackham category page, the Akseli Gallen-Kallela category page, the John William Waterhouse category page, and so on just by readding the "The Enchanted World artists" category. As for the "The Enchanted World" category, I will restore the various picture files of various illustrations and paintings that appear in the The Enchanted World: Wizards and Witches book, the very first installment of the Time-Life's The Enchanted World book series, along with the other illustrations and paintings that appear in the other installments, like The Enchanted World: Dragons, The Enchanted World: Fairies and Elves, The Enchanted World: Ghosts, and so on. Now, remember this warning I'm laying before you. Don't go around removing the two "The Enchanted World" categories, or someone else will block your account. That is a fair warning I'm laying before you. Besides, you needed to be taught a lesson. and by the way. Please let me finish the job of restoring the two "The Enchanted World" categories, if you do grant me my request. Okay? You got that? Thanks.

Reset of my edit

[edit]

Hi @Sailko,

you have reset my edit for File:Da michelangelo, leda e il cigno, post 1530 (national gallery) 01.jpg and I am curious as to why that is? Now the image is lacking the short description again, but maybe there is a good reason for that which I can learn from? Thanks in advance for explaining. XDW96 (talk) 20:39, 21 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

XDW96 Please be accurate in spelling when you describe something, as if you mispell it will look like a vandalism (Michelangelo's, not Michelangelos). --Sailko (talk) 21:09, 21 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ah, that's what it was. My head autocorrects when I am reading and I was under the impression of having put the ' in. Thank you! XDW96 (talk) 21:40, 21 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Anna Maria Torlonia by Tadolini

[edit]

Hi Sailko. Your photo of the plaster bust of Anna Maria Torlonia in the Palazzo Braschi (File:Giulio tadolini, busto di anna maria torlonia, 1880-90 ca., in gesso.jpg) identifies the artist as Giulio Tadolini, but another photo of the same bust (File:Pal Braschi - Anna Maria Torlonia (Tadolini) P1090730.JPG) identifies the artist as Adamo Tadolini. I thought this was just a slip by the user who uploaded the second photo, but then I saw that the label on the wall next to the bust does indeed attribute it to Adamo (or did in 2015, when that photo was taken). On the other hand, but the web site of the Museo di Roma says Giulio. From the dates it appears that the label on the wall must be wrong and that you and the web site much be correct: Adamo Tadolini died in 1868, when Anna Maria Torlonia was only 13, and she is clearly much older than that in the bust. (Giulio lived until 1918.) I'm planning to change the description of the second photo and move it to the category for works by Giulio, but I thought I'd ask you beforehand if you have anything to add, since you photographed this bust just a couple of years ago. Thanks, Crawdad Blues (talk) 15:48, 2 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi Crawdad Blues. Sorry for late reply. I checked the caption I photographer in the museum and it states: "Giulio Tadolini, bust of Anna Maria Torlonia, 1880-1890, plaster, MR 40287. Donated by Enrico Tadolini, 1938". Hope this helps :) --Sailko (talk) 12:30, 13 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'm sure that's right. The other photographer hasn't replied to my query, so I've gone ahead and changed the attribution on the other file to Giulio and moved it to the appropriate category. Cheers, Crawdad Blues (talk) 22:00, 15 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Autorizzazione vincolata Museo

[edit]

Ciao, grazie GUFISE (talk) 16:04, 19 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Sailko, I do not know what you have caught on camera, of course, but I think such a short information about origin and assumed time period is below threshold of origin and it should be possible to upload the image, then tagging it with {{PD-text}}. Karl or Sialko, I think, it would be better to add this information to all images of this category, there are not that many, or even to the category page itself. — Speravir22:41, 26 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sorry Speravir I do not upload museum labels, as there may be copyright issues, but if you want I can send to you too. BTW, with the inventory number it should be relatively easy to find more infos and bibliography. --Sailko (talk) 13:41, 27 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Akdamar

[edit]

Hello Sailko,

Thanks for thanking me recently. My Italian is good enough to profit from the descriptions you gave of pictures I used to create categories, so thanks to you. However, I have two requests. One is, to hold you horses for a while, as I will be busy for some more days, as I first create those categories, than use them to name pictures I took myself (may be up to 300), that I will then publish. Doing so I’ll check and double-check if I’m right. I just noticed I created a category that probably was wrong (Adam and Moses relief at Akdamar Church), and asked for its deletion. Doing so I noticed you had been busy in a category I created. But I just finished a gallery (so beyond a category) with pictures, and expect to change content here and there. If you or others edit before I consider my job finished, I’m afraid it will get messy. A second request is: In view of your knowledge of the site I intended to ask you to check if I made mistakes, and I still would appreciate that. But please wait a few days until you see I stopped editing. Dosseman (talk) 14:41, 3 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Dear Dosseman, yes, I will not edit your categories until you write me you finished. I can have a look after, yes. My descriptions were based on the local info I could gather in the text signs displayed near the church. Do you also have pictures of the frescos? I think when I was there I forgot details on one side of the church (too many, I got distracted). Glad you are adding more pictures. Thank you --Sailko (talk) 14:47, 3 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Dear Sailko,
I will let you know when I'm through with reliefs, but: a quick count indicates I have over 80 frescos, so .... And then there are many pictures from around the church. So a second wave will happen. On a government site I found that they showed some frescos, calling them reliefs. Turkish information is improving, but not quite up to standards. Dosseman (talk) 15:10, 3 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Dear Sailko,
I have finished categorising the exterior reliefs. I checked if pictures were in the right categories but would appreciate it if you checked. There is no hurry. I did correct some mistakes but did not touch “File:Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Aghtamar Arevakhach 001.jpg” though I think the categorisation as “Category:Religious buildings with Armenian Eternity Sign” is wrong. I have better things to do. I hope my Elias work is right, do check please. And maybe you can add some explanatory text in the descriptions? For instance in “John the Baptist and Saint Gregory relief at Akdamar Church” I do not know who is where.
I dislike people who will put a single picture in as many categories as they can think up. Some pictures I came across are in six, seven categories. Not for me. For a similar reason I do not bother to put low level categories into major ones. What is the use of “Religious sculptures in Turkey by province” (I think this up)? But there are people who have it for a hobby. The search engine of Wikimedia is quite good to find many and if not, Google helps me find almost any picture soon. And AI will make many categories just a waste of time, so why bother? Of course this is my opinion. But I do get annoyed when I can’t find a picture published years ago, because it now is five levels deep in a subsub…subcategory becuse of the hobbyists.
I leave the 192 pictures I worked on in “Category:Exterior reliefs of Akdamar Church”, but left my 170+ ones out, as I prefer the named categories.
I will do some other pictures first, then start with frescos.
Greetings. Dosseman (talk) 10:32, 4 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Goodbye Sailko,
I have finished my activities in Akdamar. I enjoyed seeing some of the frescos I had overlooked when visiting myself. But I must confess I have travelled extensively in Italy and seen almost all major cities, often repeatedly, with attention to its churches. One reason to “move” to Turkey was my getting fed up with another saint, and then one more. So I passed many of the saints you carefully registered in Akdamar. But I thank you for all the specifications that you added to your pictures, it helped me to identify almost all I took myself.
I grouped many of the frescos into categories, using your names. You obviously named them as a tour, categorising some broke up that tour but I think it may help future uploaders who will probably take a few pictures, not the massive collection you produced.
I’m virtually off to Ahlat now, bye. Dosseman (talk) 08:20, 6 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Dosseman thank you! Great job. I will look up if I notice anything to fix. --Sailko (talk) 13:48, 6 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

It is a natural shadow from a cloud passing by and leaving the main subject in the spotlight, so I'd rather keep it unedited. --Sailko 08:30, 30 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm undecided. Would like other people to make judgement. --E bailey 13:47, 2 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
